Jon Yocum Receives 2026 Iowa REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award

DES MOINES, Iowa — Jon Yocum, a longtime REALTOR® from the Quad Cities and former president of Iowa REALTORS®, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Iowa REALTORS® OG Powell/Joan Ballantyne Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes a REALTOR® whose passion, dedication and service have made a lasting impact on the profession and the communities they serve.

For nearly four decades, Yocum has built his real estate career around a simple philosophy: real estate is about people.

Throughout his career, Yocum has been a mentor to countless REALTORS®, helping new agents navigate their first transactions, write offers, conduct open houses and learn the ropes of the business. He has built lasting relationships with clients and colleagues and has consistently been willing to go the extra mile to help others succeed.

His impact can be seen not only in the REALTORS® he has mentored, but in the communities and people he has invested in throughout his career.”

Yocum’s commitment to the profession extends well beyond his real estate business. He has served in numerous leadership roles at the local and state levels, including serving as president of Iowa REALTORS®. He has also represented the REALTOR® community nationally as a Federal Political Coordinator, helping foster relationships between REALTORS® and elected officials.

But one of Yocum’s most enduring contributions began in 1997, when he helped bring a unique hands-on program back to life in the Quad Cities. The Student Built program gives high school students the opportunity to learn the construction trades by actually building a home from the ground up.

For 25 years, Yocum helped lead the effort, which has now reached its 28th home. Over the years, hundreds of students have gained hands-on experience in nearly every aspect of residential construction, from framing and roofing to cabinetry and flooring.

The program provides more than construction experience. Students receive tools to take with them when the project is complete, and scholarship opportunities help support students pursuing vocational training or higher education.

His service also reflects a willingness to invest in the next generation of REALTORS®. Whether answering a question from a new agent, walking someone through an offer or sharing lessons learned over decades in the business, Yocum has consistently made himself available to those who need a helping hand.

Yocum was presented with the 2026 Iowa REALTORS® OG Powell/Joan Ballantyne Distinguished Service Award during the Iowa REALTORS® Convention in Des Moines.
