Your Safety Matters: Resources Every REALTOR® Should Know
| Sep 02, 2025
September is REALTOR® Safety Month, a time dedicated to reinforcing the importance of safety in the real estate profession.
From open houses to late-night client meetings, REALTORS® often find themselves in situations that can pose real risks. While helping clients achieve their homeownership goals is rewarding, it’s just as important to ensure every interaction is handled with personal safety in mind.
The National Association of REALTORS® provides a variety of resources to ensure safety is a priority for members. The REALTOR® Safety Program includes training materials, safety planning guides, and even customizable resources to help brokerages keep safety front and center.
Webinars/Trainings
We know schedules don't always allow you the ability to attend webinars and training when they first occur. Thankfully, NAR offers a number of on-demand safety webinars and videos. Topics included in these easily-accessible videos include personal awareness, digital security, and recognizing predatory behavior.

Safety Tips
Safety tips may seem simple, but they can save lives. Here are a few tips to get started:
- Pre-screen clients
- Meet new clients in a public place before showing homes
- When showing a home, keep the blinds open and exits visible
- Position yourself behind clients when touring properties
- Utilize safety apps that share your location with friends or family
- Explore taking self-defense courses
You can find more safety tips on the REALTOR® Safety Program website or in this article from The Close.
While your safety is important all year long, September is a time to remember we should take steps to increase our awareness and ability to be prepared in every situation.
