Legislative Issues

Legislative Priorities and Bill Tracking

The staff and leadership at Iowa REALTORS® keep a close eye on issues within Iowa that impact homeownership, property rights and the real estate industry.  Our Legislative Forum with the IAR government affairs team and our Legislative Committee meets weekly during the Iowa legislative session to review and discuss the latest topics and proposed legislation at the Iowa Capitol.

Our Legislative Forum meetings are hosted via Zoom at 9:30 a.m. on Mondays during the Legislative Session. These meetings are open to REALTOR® members only.

Capitol Conference

We encourage all of our members to attend the Iowa REALTORS® ' annual Capitol Conference. During Capitol Conference, REALTORS® and staff visit with legislators to discuss issues important to the real estate profession.

Legislative Priorities

Each year, Iowa REALTORS® champion legislative priorities related to important issues facing REALTORS® at both the state and federal level.

These priorities showcase that your voice matters in our ability to showcase the vital role REALTORS® play in the state and in protecting the rights of current and future property owners.

Our members provide critical support to consumers, serving as a trusted advisor through one of the biggest financial decisions of their lifetime. Iowa REALTORS® ability to assist those seeking to buy or sell a home is vital. Ensuring these consumers have the rights and resources to make these decisions is a key tenet of the REALTOR® profession. Each of these elements often requires legislative action. Below are legislative priorities and victories outline at the state and federal level in 2024.

Federal Political Coordinators

Every member of Congress is assigned a REALTOR® Federal Political Coordinator (FPC.)

FPCs are a specifically selected group of REALTORS® who serve as the voice and face of real estate to our federal lawmakers, playing a pivotal role in REALTOR® Party outreach.

In addition to regular contact with the assigned Member of Congress, each FPC must:

• Attend each annual REALTOR® Legislative Meetings in Washington D.C.
• Advocate on behalf of all REALTORS® and the REALTOR® Party.
• Participate in online or in-person training as required.
• Respond to all NAR Calls for Action.
